Some more about the author.

Dr Talis Putnins is the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Finance at the UTS Business School in Sydney and Assistant Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. 

He teaches bachelor and executive MBA courses in finance.  His research covers several areas of financial market microstructure and design and specialises in market manipulation.  Dr Putnins regularly presents his research at international conferences and universities in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia.  His work on market manipulation has attracted attention from financial market regulators, stock exchange surveillance departments and developers of automated market surveillance systems.  His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Experimental Economics, Journal of Economic Surveys and International Review of Finance. 

Talis has worked as a consultant to stock exchanges and banks and has acted as an expert witness in legal cases involving financial securities.  He has done policy work for the Latvian government and received an Academic Fellowship from the International Monetary Fund.  Talis has a PhD from the University of Sydney and degrees in Finance and Engineering from the University of Adelaide, where he was awarded the University Medal.  He is the recipient of a number of research awards and honours.
